History

Stennes Funeral Home got its beginning in 1951 when Lars Stennes purchased the White Funeral Home and Furniture Store in Drayton, North Dakota.  Ken Stennes, a brother of Lars, joined him in Drayton and purchased the Furniture Store in 1962. Lars was in the process of expanding to East Grand Forks, Stephen, and purchasing the funeral home in Hallock, Minnesota. The two families worked together as Lars moved his family to Hallock and then on to East Grand Forks. As the years went by, Lars Stennes's brother Ken Stennes obtained his schooling and became a licensed  funeral director. It allowed him to sell the furniture store in Drayton and assume the reins of the funeral business.  Lars sold the funeral homes in Hallock, Drayton, and Stephen to employees and Ken moved to East Grand Forks. Tom Stennes, eldest son of Ken, a licensed funeral director, joined the operation in 1979.  Together they started Stennes Granite to go along with the funeral home. In 1987, Dan Dahl joined the firm as a funeral director.  Ken retired in 1989 and Tom Stennes took over the business.  Ken Stennes died in 2002.    On July 1, 2011, Dan and Jeanette Dahl purchased the funeral home and will continue to provide the same care and commitment to the families of East Grand Forks and Grand Forks communities as they have done so for the past 60 years.
