John A. Peterson
September 24, 1939 - July 13, 2010
John Peterson, age 70 of Grand Forks, ND passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at his home under hospice care.
John A. Peterson was born on September 24, 1939 in Hope, ND the son of Arthur M. and Almira (Haagenson) Peterson. John grew up and attended school in Fargo, ND and worked with Grandpa John on the farm. In 1958 John entered the United States Air Force and was stationed in Japan. While serving in the Air Force, John was assigned to Lajes Field, Azores Tach Kavava, Japan and was put on Flying status as a Flight Mechanic Load Master. He was to be honorable discharged to Lawry Field but that was cancelled due to the Berlin Wall rising so his discharge was not until June of 1962. On April 17, 1964 he was united in marriage to Renee Triske in Grand Forks, ND. They lived in Grand Forks until 1973 when they then moved to Hatton, ND. He worked for the Air Force Radar Sites in Finley, ND until they moved back to Grand Forks in 1985. He then began working at the Grand Forks Air Force Base in Civil Service before retiring after 30 years. John was activated for “Desert Storm” in 1991 and served six months of Active Duty. He also served in the Army National Guard and the Navy Reserve until his retirement in July of 1998. John was a member of United Lutheran Church, the DAV and the Grand Forks American Legion Post #6. John and Renee enjoyed many loving years together enjoying the outdoors, gardening and fishing. In later years he enjoyed time with his granddaughters and his beloved constant companion Annie the dog.
Family members who survive John include his wife Renee of Grand Forks, ND, children: Kelli (Aaron) Rygg of Grand Forks, ND, Dan (Mary) Peterson of Lisbon, ND, mother, Almira of Mayville, ND, 3 grandchildren, Kori, Allie and Kacie along with 1 future great-grandson DJ (John), 1 brother Ron (Della) Peterson of Fargo, ND, 1 sister Jan (Laurance) Lewis of Castle Rock, CO.
John is preceded in death by his father Arthur, father and mother-in-law and a brother-in-law, SGT Dick Triske USMC.
Our family would like to thank our wonderful neighbors in the Riverside area and the Hospice Staff who made our lives and loss easier to bear. With a very special thanks to Barb M. & Joan S. from hospice. Both are truly “Angels”.
