Robert (Bob) Mankie 79 Watertown, SD formerly of Grand Forks, ND died July 18, 2010 in Jenkins Living Center, Watertown, SD.
Robert Lloyd Mankie was born April 25, 1931 in East Grand Forks, MN the son of Henry and Jenny (Stadstad) Mankie. Robert grew up and attended school on the point and worked for Thoms Floral for many years as a young man before enlisting in the US Navy (Seebees) in 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1956. He was stationed in Korea and Japan during this time upon returning home. While back home he worked on the building of the Grand Forks Air Base. Bob was an engineer putting in the missiles in North Dakota. He was an engineer for Richmond Engineering where he worked on the building of roads, water plant, Point Bridge. For many years he owned and operated his own construction company in the Grand Forks area. He married Darla Ann Hearn on January 21, 1966 in East Grand Forks, MN. They resided in Grand Forks, ND and raised 3 children.
Survivors include his wife Darla Mankie, Watertown, SD, daughter Tammy Mankie, Highland Ranch, CO, Todd (Wendy) Mankie, Grand Forks, ND, Troy (Jody) Mankie, Watertown, SD. Grandchildren Ashley, Kaitlin, Jenny, Nathan, Jakob Mankie. One sister Gloria Anderson, Mesa, AZ. Both parents preceded him in death along with one sister Jean(Louis)Murray.
He loved fishing, planting flowers, gardening and building things.
